Description

These are just a few of the ones buzzing in my head. This is mostly to explain the relation of anatomy and the strap position, especially to fix all the problems I have with others' ideas.

*If you put a hole in the dragon's wings he cannot fly! It's not like a bird.
*The wings can't be farther back than where I've placed them, it's just not naturally possible, unless they have more than one pair.
*The girth strap has to bend around the front part of the wing's shoulder, not go straight back like with a horse.
*Dragon armor really only needs to protect the most important joints, the neck, head, and belly. If something can hit a dragon elsewhere, the dragon isn't paying attention.
*It is possible with a large dragon to sit on it like a horse. (thus my first saddle--I used to make high-tech versions of this one before I went to pure straps)

Anyway, I like putting the large strap with a smaller one, because I'm such a Pern fanatic. The harness in the middle was inspired by ~Wolfsjal's harness: [link] .

Hi, I'm a High fantasy author. If you don't mind, a couple of questions about your design. Background: In the 2nd book of this series the main characters are Spirit-bonded with their baby dragonets and develop the ability to Mind-bridge with them in the 3rd book. I'm currently writing the 4th and final book of the series. The primary character tries to ride her dragon several times and keep falling as the saddle shifts a lot and particularly the rear of the saddle flies up and she is thrown into the air (this is intentional as part of the story line). The idea of the croup strap is great (which I incorporate in the story to finally solve the problem for the character). My character can Send thoughts back-and-forth with her dragon so the dragon doesn't really need much external guidance, however, you never know so the idea of the pulley system would a really nice addition to the story. Can you explain a little about how the system works and what it does? Can you explain your comment, "*The girth strap has to bend around the front part of the wing's shoulder, not go straight back like with a horse." I was trying to see how this worked. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. I love the images. You've put a lot of thought and leveraged the "possible" physical structure to create something that works. I really try to make my tales as realistic as I can, digging into the anatomy and such, so your images have been very helpful.
